Escobar sent a full-count fastball from Maeda (8-10) into the right-field seats, stopping Arizona’s four-game losing streak.David Peralta had a two-run double and pinch-hitter Ildemaro Vargas lined a run-scoring single in the seventh inning for Arizona (80-78), which needs two wins to ensure consecutive winning seasons for the first time since 2007-08.“We know two teams are fighting it out for the NL West,” Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said. “We are bummed we are not one of them, but we still want to be a part of the blueprint of what happens. We are not going to lay down for anybody.”Cody Bellinger hit a solo home run for the Dodgers.“Win more games than we lose, we should be in the playoffs,” pitcher Walker Buehler said.Coming off a career-high 12-strikeout performance against Colorado in a no-decision, Buehler allowed two runs and four hits in six innings. He gave up a pair of singles through the first five innings and led 1-0 before allowing Peralta’s double. Enrique Hernandez hit a tying single in the seventh following Yasmani Grandal’s leadoff triple.Matt Koch gave up a leadoff homer to Bellinger in the second, Los Angeles’ NL-leading 227th home run this season. Koch allowed one run and five hits in 4 1/3 innings.“It was a fun game for sure,” Koch said. “A lot of timely hitting, a lot of good defense.”MISSED CHANCESThe Dodgers gave up a walkoff homer to lose Luis Tiant Jersey , but had plenty of chances to build a lead before Arizona rallied.Los Angeles had a runner at second with one out or less three times and failed to advance him, finishing 2 for 12 with runners in scoring position.“To not be able to get that guy to third base I think was the difference in the game,” Roberts said. “We just couldn’t take advantage of our opportunities.”MACHADO STAREDOWNArizona reliever Yoan Lopez worked out of a jam after a leadoff double to Manny Machado in the eighth and had an emphatic celebration after striking out the final two batters. Lopez’s antics did not go over well with Machado, who stared down the Arizona right-hander as he walked toward the dugout.“I respect what he is all about,” Lopez said through an interpreter. ” I was excited and just like him when he raised his arm when he hit the double, I raised mine when had the strikeout. It’s just the way it happened.”TRAINER’S ROOMDiamondbacks: 1B Christian Walker is out for the season with a sinus fracture after being hit by a pitch from Maeda on Monday night. … RHP Shelby Miller, recovering from Tommy John surgery, threw a 60-pitch simulated game and could pitch this weekend against San Diego.UP NEXTDiamondbacks RHP Zack Greinke is 2-1 with a 4.29 ERA this season against the Dodgers heading into Wednesday’s series finale. Dodgers RHP Ross Stripling is 1-1 with a 4.80 ERA in three career starts against Arizona. SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) — San Francisco Giants hitting coach Alonzo Powell never considered stepping away when he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Being around the game is good therapy, he said, and all he had to do was find a way to work his radiation treatments into his busy schedule. The 54-year-old was diagnosed during a routine physical in 2017 while he was on the Houston Astros’ coaching staff. He underwent a biopsy after the ’17 World Series, which the Astros won, and was told in January 2018 that he had prostate cancer. As Powell says, 2017 was the best year of his life http://www.redsoxproshops.com/authentic-dustin-pedroia-jersey , but in ’18, his favorite college football team, Oklahoma, lost the Rose Bowl and he was told he had cancer.“I’m in 2018 and I’m already 0 for 2,” he said.Powell started radiation treatments on Jan. 8, 2018, and finished his 40th on Thursday, prompting a celebration by the Giants players.“I made it through it and didn’t have any issues and I was still able to come out and do my job which meant a lot to me to get through it,” Powell said Saturday. “I don’t want to be a distraction to the players. So far, everything is good.”Powell lives in Peoria, near Scottsdale, and during the offseason would get his radiation treatment at 8 a.m. When players started reporting to the Giants camp for work, he switched his treatments to 5 p.m.When the Giants began their games, Powell would report to Scottsdale Stadium Tony Conigliaro Jersey , do early work with the hitters, then make the 25-minute drive to Peoria for treatment. He always made it to the Giants’ game, whether it was in Scottsdale or on the road.Powell is fortunate that his wife is a registered nurse. Being around baseball also helps.“I had no thought about not coaching,” Powell said. “This is what I love to do. If I didn’t have any restrictions, there was no question that this was where I want to be. Like I told my wife, for some reason, when you step on the field, that’s your haven. This is kind of where I’m at peace and don’t let a lot of things bother me. It’s kind of a little bit of therapy being out here.“I understand what I’m dealing with,” he said. “I also understand it could be a lot worse. I could’ve gotten a different diagnosis. It could be something I couldn’t overcome.”He’s received text messages and phone calls from former teammates, including the ones he met while playing in Japan. He’s got one more hurdle to clear.“I won’t find out for another six weeks if they got it all,” he said. “All I can do is keep praying and keep hoping.”NOTES: The Giants optioned RHPs Melvin Adon and Jose Lopez on Sunday and now have 53 players in camp plus one on the 60-day injured list (Johnny Cueto).
